I’m Thankful for . . .
Every day of life God has chosen to give me. I’m thankful that I lived to an age that provided me an opportunity to enjoy retirement. Many of my friends did not! I’m thankful for strawberry pancakes, peanut butter and whole wheat bread. I’m thankful for a wife that has stood by me for 50 years and counting. I’m thankful for family and friends that are there when I need them. I’m thankful for the sunshine, the rain, warm and cool weather and an occasional snow accumulation that comes once or twice each year.
I’m thankful for turkey, dressing, green peas, Cranberry sauce, hot rolls, tea and cherry pie. I’m thankful for a Varsity hot dog, onion ring and big orange soda every now and then. I’m thankful for Chic-fila and Sub-way.
I’m thankful for the Jefferson Dragons, the Georgia Bulldogs and all the youth sports programs that teach sportsmanship and discipline. I’m thankful for that policeman, that medical doctor, that minister, that fireman, that Wal-Mart cash register operator, that American soldier and that mechanic that keeps my old truck running.
I’m thankful for the teachers that taught me to read, taught me to count and taught me the pledge of allegiance with “under God” in it. I’m thankful to Mrs. Mable Potter for teaching me American History and Civics at Jefferson High school. I’m thankful for Coach John Davis, who let me participate on his football and track teams at that same school. I'm thankful for those classmates that spent many of their childhood and teenage years with me at Jefferson High School and remained life-long friends upon graduation.
I'm thankful for a beautiful golf course, even thought I struggle to play the game. I'm thankful when I do play that good round or make that infrequent good shot. I’m thankful I can half-way putt or I’d have given up on the game long ago. I'm thankful for the opportunity to exercise from playing golf, walking in the neighborhood and working in my yard.
I’m thankful for the poultry processing industry that afforded me the opportunity to support my family for over 45 years. I’m thankful for freedom of speech, freedom of religion and freedom of choice. I’m thankful that long-time friend Vicki Ray Dunn asked me to get on Face Book and “try it out.” I’m thankful for all the 3,000 plus friends I have picked up or been reaquainted with on Face Book over the last six years. I’m thankful for new contact with old friends, fresh contact with new friends and the humorous and many times uplifting posts I see on Face Book. I'm also thankful that I was able to long ago forgive Vicki for turning me into a social network junkie.
I have a lot of things to be thankful for. Only a hand full of my many blessings have been mentioned. There are so many, many more!
Best wishes to all my Face Book friends and cecilbuffington.com regular viewers for a fabulous and safe Thanksgiving, a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
