MUSING WITH CECIL BUFFINGTON . . . I'M THANKFUL FOR
MUSING WITH CECIL BUFFINGTON
I'M THANKFUL FOR . . .
My life has been blessed with moments and events that I have been thankful for. From my youth when I grew up in a small town where life was kind'a laid back, but every day was another adventure in fun, excitement and another life lesson. From parents that spent their life working in a cotton mill to reaching adulthood with an idea of where I wanted to go and how I was going to get there. I was blessed to live in a country that allowed individual freedom, the right to achieve an education, the right to have a family, and to have the right to a life of work choice and religious freedom. Those were the big things from my past that I thank the lord for every day as I live my life in my forever home town of Jefferson, Georgia.
As I work at this computer I think back to those days when I didn't even know how to bring up a screen on this modern day miracle. I sort of roll around in my mind some of the things that I am most thankful for at this time in my life. Little things that don't matter much in the grand scheme of worldwide happenings, but little things that still mean alot to me.
I'm thankful that I have reached the age of 70 years old. My mother passed away at 54 years and my dad at 57 years.
I'm thankful for pancakes, peanut butter sandwiches, Chic Filet and an occasional Varsity chili dog.
I'm thankful for that grass in my yard that I get to mow every other week on my John Deere tractor.
I'm thankful for black Dodge Ram pickup trucks that I have driven for over 40 years.
I'm thankful for reasonably good health for someone my age and the ability to pretty much go and come as I please.
I'm thankful for the good health of my family and all my friends that have been so blessed.
I'm thankful that I can still hit a golf ball and score well enough to still have the game be a fun experience every time I play it.
I'm thankful for high school and college football.
I'm thankful for facebook and the reopening of old friendships with classmates and many people I have not seen or heard from in many years.
I'm thankful for many NEW friends I have made over the years on facebook.
I'm thankful for the friends that I play golf with and those that I have known almost an entire lifetime.
I'm thankful that I have maintained a good sense of humor over the years as I still like to read Peanuts, Beetle Bailey and Blondie in the Sunday newspaper.
I'm thankful for that annual Thanksgiving dinner when the entire family gets together on my favorite holiday.
I'm thankful for my faith and continued love of GOD as I witness the moral decay of many segments of our country on the news channels every day.
And finally . . .
I'm thankful for being a son of the south that was raised to feel good about it when I say "Everybody have a good Thanksgiving", "Merry Christmas" and "Happy New Year".
