Hello ~ Delores and Leonard . . . It's been awhile. Great to hear from you. Hope you enjoyed the trek back through Gold Kist Poultry. A lot of fond memories for the old chicken plant manager. We had alot of fun fighting those chicken wars, didn't we? Delores ( you ) told me today that you put in 18 years fighting the good battle. Once you drink the water in that chicken business you can't get out of it. Please stay in touch. God Bless the Garrett family. Both of you were aways high class people and I am glad to have known you back then and renew friendships with you now. Cecil
Cecil, it was so good to see you and your lovely wife recently at McDonald's. I'm really impressed with your website and your writing ability. I just read the Chicken Plant article, and I must say, "I've got to have the book!"
Also, I agree with you that Jeff Davis was the finest football player that I've ever seen. And by the way Cecil, when it came to basketball and track and field, you were number ONE!
Too, Bobby Potter my neighbor growing up was an athlete that I always looked up to. Just a fine person. I still see him from time to time.
Look forward to talking with you later.
God Bless,
"Bugs"

Hello Howard : Great to hear from you. I appreciate the kind words about my fooling around with basketball and track, but I didn't see any reference to my ability to drop passes or strike out in baseball. Really, we did have fun with our sports thing in high school, didn't we? As I recall you stayed quite busy participating in football, baseball and track. I can't recall if you fooled around with basketball, but I don't doubt it. You were a fine athlete and a fine gentleman. I guess you can see I really am a nostalgia buff about the fifties and sixties. I enjoy writing about those wonderful times in my novels and displaying old photographs on my site. Bobby Potter was the best on-side quarterback I've ever seen. He took the snap off to the Guard side of the center, not directly behind the center. I never knew why Coach Davis used him in that manner, but he was certainly most effective. Jeff Davis was simply unique, the best high school football player I ever witnessed. A tremendous football player, hurdles and broad jump athlete in track and field at Jefferson and a very good football player at Georgia Tech. My wife enjoyed meeting you on the aforementioned day . . . She said you were "cute." She said that, not me now, but I've learned not to argue with her. You take care and God Bless always ~ Cecil
You forgot to mention who led on all of those sweeps that Billy ran touchdowns, also for the touchdowns that Benny ran up the middle. Pulling guards never get any credit. You done a wonderful job. Enjoyed every bit.

Charles ~ I think your name crops up frequently in the 1956 Dragon football review. I remember you well from that team. I really enjoyed watching this team perform. This just happened to be a year when we ran into THREE very good football teams and did not have the depth or ability to overcome our small school shortcomings. With Ricks and Tompkins and the rest of this crowd it was a team that made it fun to watch. I know you're proud that you were a member of the 1956 Jefferson Dragons. Thanks for visiting my site and for your comments: Cecil
I want to thank all the guy's that participated in the Football Selection pool this season. It was enjoyable. We will try to have some sort of pool again next season.
Everyone have a great 2010. . . . . . .
Cecil
How do you go about doing a web page like yours. Thank you, Melissa

From Cecil Buffington . . . Melissa, anyone can have their own web-site. You just purchase one or in my case my book publisher provides one to me for use in publicizing my books and for personal use. They are a lot of fun.
What a great website!! Great pictures. I enjoyed my years at Gold Kist, especially the years spent in Payroll. There I got to interact with lots of the plan personnel. Good memories.
I enjoyed your book The Chicken Plant. Have not yet read the other two. Hope to soon.
