In the late 70s and into the 80s, automation boomed onto the scene in First Processing and even into the Further Processing area.

Into the late 70s, poultry processing was mostly a manual task with very little automation past the picking room.

I Love wing drumettes. These were Famous Recipe, who bought chicken from our Mt. Sterling Sales Unit.

Marceline Drake and Fred Huskey. Fred kept me out of trouble with Government regulations and Marceline brought in the people to get the job done.

This little incident cost over 75 second shift associates their jobs. Outside agitators stirred the pot on this little mess.

Patsy Drake always stayed busy in the personnel department. Patsy was the Division Insurance Manager attached to Personnel.

Tully Westmoreland was the First Shift Production Manager for many years at Gold Kist Athens. He knew a processing plant from front to back. A good person, too!

For 14 years. Gold Kist Athens put together a golf tournament for customers, management and vendors. Donations from vendors covered most of the expense. Usually over 100 players would compete in the tournament with a Pine Crest Lodge dinner at the conclusion of the event. Pictured above is Cecil Buffington, Terri Duncan and Leon Brewer at the 16th hole where a hole-in-one would win the golfer $25,000.00.

I can't say enought about Willie Meadows. Here, I present him with the 1987 Gold Kist Associate of the Year award. He was the most dependable person I worked with in my 42 years in poultry processing.
