On March 17, 1962 the Jackson Herald published the 1960 census report for Jackson County. There were 5,667 housing units in the county. Only 2, 744 of these units had plumbing or 48.42 %. The average value of individual units was $6,100 each. Rental units average rent was $37.00 per month. More units had televisions than plumbing.
Radio's were the number one appliance in the county with 89.0% of households owning one. Washing machines were the number two appliance in popularity with 80.50% of all housing units having them.
Flush toilets were available in 64.7% of all units.
One auto was available in 58.0% of the units, while 18.9% had two autos.
Telephones were available inh 58.0% of the available units.
There were 84 trailers ( mobile homes ) in the county.
