Jeff Davis scores one of his five Touchdowns against Georgia Industrial Institute in 1960. Jefferson won the game 45 - 7 in Jefferson. The Dragons finished the season with a 6 - 2 - 2 record.

On a rainy night in Jefferson ~ Morgan County and the Dragons fought to a 0 - 0 tie in 1960. In this photo Jimmy Sexton makes the tackle with Don Tompkins ( 20 ) ready to lend assistance.

THe 1957 Jefferson Dragons - Front Row - L - R - Johnny Melvin, Benny Tompkins, Edwin McClure, Lewis Gailey, Jerry Adams, Billy Ricks, Second Row - L - R - Leroy Williamson, Bobby Potter, Gary Duke, Daniel Gasaway, and Roy Evans.

In 1957 ~ The above Jefferson Mills team met the undefeated 1957 Jefferson Dragons ( 6 - 0 ) in a March of Dimes Benefit game in Jefferson at the Community Gym. The Mill Team won easily 73 - 51 with Morris Dinwiddie, a former University of Georgia All-Southeastern Conference star scoring 31 points. Charlie middlebrooks scored 21 for the mill. Members of this team were: Starters : Morris Dinwiddie, Curtis Segars, Charlie Middlebrooks, Bucky Johnson, and Davis Roberts. Other team members were : Charlie Cox, Harold Curruth, Carroll Bufford, John Godfrey, Wayne Wages, and Hershel Middlebrooks.

Curtis Segars was the mainstay of the undefeated 1950 Dragons. The Dragons finished the season 9 - 0 - 1.

Donald Cole may have been the best freshman back ever to play at Jefferson. He was a four year starter for the Dragons from 1950 - 53.

Cecil Buffington was the first of a long line of Excellent Dragon Pole Vaulters. In this picture he clears 11'6" to win first place in the first Jefferson Relays in 1964. Buffington also won the 120-yard high hurdles with a 15.6 time. These were the only two first places for the Dragons in the first Jefferson Relays in 1964.

The Jefferson Summer Day Camp was one of the earliest Jefferson Traditions of the Golden Age of Jefferson ~ 1945 - 1960 ~ The 1958 Staff consisted of : Front Row - L - R - Ellen Hall, Ellen Garrison, Jennie Wilson, Gloria Spence, Ann Melvin and Mrs. Claude Stewart. Back row - L - R - Camp Director John Bell, Jeff Davis, Johnny Melvin, Lynda Massey, Don Tompkins and Jane Melvin.

Second Row - L-R; Roger Jackson, Eddie Marlowe, Tim Fleeman, Ralph Kinsey, Buck Tolbert, Mike Arnold, Larry Cooper. Third Row - L-R; George Waddell, Bryan Duke, Burton Riddle, Jerry Waddell, Jeff Davis, Don Tompkins, Harold Bone and Damon West.

Mr. A. G. Mitchell, owner and operator of Jefferson Lumber Company says ~ “We need to do more to support our band and our young people,” as he gives an order for “Benson’s Old Home Fruit Cake” to Jefferson Band members Judy Whelchel and Linda Massey. From 1959.
