+-------- Bobby Daniels had a TD on a 66-yard punt return.

++------ Ray Sutton had an 86-yard kickoff return for a TD.

+++---- Jefferson’s first half TD didn’t stand up as Winder-Barrow

scored seven in the 3Q in a rally to beat the Dragons.

^-------- Jefferson lost this battle of traditionally tough defenses,

as the Tiger offense was better on this night.

QB Eddie Brookshire’s 71-yard TD pass to split end

Bobby Daniels closed the Tiger’s 1Q lead to (14-8), as the

same combo connected on the two-point conversion.

However, the Tiger offense later opened up a (28-8) lead,

before a short and late Brookshire TD scamper closed

the Dragon deficit to the final (28-14).

++++--- Marc Mason had a 60-yard run for a touchdown.

^^------ Jefferson lost its opportunity to be sub-region champion

with this loss to Buford in the last game of the season

and therefore finished second in the sub-region.

Marc Mason had a 75-yard TD run; Bobby Daniels had

a 75-yard non-scoring interception return.

&&---- Playoff game played in Winder----Neutral Site

At a meeting of region coaches on Sunday after the Buford (1) game

on Friday, a decision was made to replay the game at neutral Winder

to determine the sub-region champion, since the last game of the

regular season between Jefferson and Buford for the sub-region

championship had ended in a (0-0) tie. Jefferson won this

squeaker (6-3) for the sub-region title following Todd Berry’s

3-yard TD run with less that 10 seconds to go in the 4Q.

^^------ Jefferson won its third REGION TITLE with a win over Rabun

County (6-0) in another close one. This is the only PLAYOFF

game Jefferson has ever won AWAY, (1-14) record at this point.

$$------- Todd Berry had a 65-yard TD on an interception return.

^^^-----After having scored first to go up (7-0) early, Jefferson eventually

lost to Lincoln County in a tough, hard fought state title game.

$-------- Fifth most game points scored by a Jefferson team in a game.

^^^---- Jefferson was undefeated at (7-0) and ranked #7 in the AJC

polls when the Commerce game was played in 1978.

Commerce was also undefeated at (6-0) and ranked #2 at the

time of this sub-region classic contest played on a stormy night.

The first Jefferson TD came when QB Dewayne Moon skirted

right end from three yards out. The PAT was blocked but

Jefferson had a (6-0) lead.

Later, with Jefferson down (6-14), defensive end James Shields

intercepted a Tiger screen pass and returned it 80 yards for

a touchdown. On the conversion, Moon’s successful option

keeper knotted the score at (14-14) with 51 seconds before half.

In the 4Q, Commerce missed a late 38-yard field goal that would

have won the game during this second half defensive struggle.

Later, the Tigers lost a fumble at the Dragon 15 with less than

20 seconds to go in the game, as the Dragons were able to keep

Commerce out of the Jefferson end zone to preserve the tie.

The defenses of both teams were awesome on this wet night.

##-------- Friday the 13th record, (7-1-2)

+++++-- Ronald Watson had an 85-yard touchdown run.

####----- This sub-region loss to Duluth ended the Dragons’ playoff hopes,

as Jefferson finished 2nd in the sub-region behind Commerce.

Jefferson’s nine game unbeaten streak dating back to the first

game of the season came to an end with this loss.

and a Number were used on Jefferson’s Red Helmet.

The other year was in 1981.

+-------- Todd Berry had a 62-yard TD run: Ronald Watson had a

68-yard interception return for a TD. The two teams

Johnny Rucker recovered a fumble in the EZ for a touchdown.

+++---- Berry had a 69-yard touchdown run; QB Phillip Thompson

had a 62-yard TD pass to Clyde Jones.

^^------ The Dragons upset unbeaten and eventual sub-region champion

Commerce in this huge sub-region and cross-county battle.

Three Dragon interceptions from the Tiger quarterback, one of

which was returned 80 yards for a TD by Raynard Borders,

as well as one fumble recovery from the Commerce offense

helped Jefferson upset the favored Tigers.

Running back Ronald Watson was a stalwart in the Dragon

offensive attack, as he scored three TD’s on runs of 63, 3 and 3

yards, while end James Shields scored early on a 66-yard pass

reception from QB Phillip Thompson to put the Dragons up for

good at (14-10) in the second quarter.

Zack Daniels scored the only Dragon touchdown with a

one-yard run, and QB Phillip Thompson ran in for the

two-point conversion in the third quarter to close the
