DRAGONS FORCE FIVE BUT FALL: At Jefferson, the Lady Dragons’ season came to an end as Hebron Christian won a second-round Class AA/A playoff match in five games despite breaking several school records.

Hebron Christian won 24-26, 25-22, 25-22, 19-25, 15-12.

Jefferson finished the seeason 32-10 overall.

The Lady Dragons were led by Cassie Metcalf (two aces, nine kills, two assists, seven digs); Amanda Daniel (three aces, 40 assists, one block, three digs); Taylor Cramsey (eight aces, 23 kills, one block, four digs); Eden Starnes (one ace, three kills, two digs); Sarah Wood (one ace, five kills, two assists, three digs); and Savanna Holland (two aces, five kills, one dig).

Metcalf’s seven digs tied a school record and Daniel’s 40 assists and Cramsey’s 23 kills set new school records, and the match was played in front of what Jefferson coach Mike Paul said was a school-record crowd.

“I can’t be more pround of a group of young girls,” Paul said. “This group of seniors will be remembered for along time, and future teams will be held up against their measure.”

DRAGONS ADVANCE: At Jefferson, the Lady Dragons topped Landmark Christian 25-19, 25-20, 25-13 to advance to the second round of the Class A/AA playoffs.

The Lady Dragons were led by Cassie Metcalf (one ace, five kills, five digs); Amanda Daniel (three aces, two kills, 21 assists, two digs); Taylor Cramsey (five aces, nine kills, one block, one dig); Eden Starnes (one ace, seven kills, two digs); Sarah Wood (four aces, six kills, two assists, one block, one dig); and Savanna Holland (one ace, seven kills, one block).

Jefferson will next play on Tuesday against the winner of Wednesday’s match between Hebron Christian and Kendrick. The Lady Dragons will host if Hebron Christian wins or travel if Kendrick wins.

LADY SPARTANS CLAIM TITLE: Athens Academy beat Jefferson twice Saturday in the Area 8A-AA tournament to claim the area title.

Crysten Curry (23 kills, 18 digs, eight blocks, three aces) led the way for the Lady Spartans (32-11), who clinched a No. 2 seed for the state playoffs.


Jefferson , which beat North Oconee in the loser's bracket, was led by Cassie Metcalf (seven aces, 22 kills, seven digs), Amanda Daniel (72 assists) and Taylor Cramsey (27 kills).


Mary Banister (27 digs, 21 kills, two blocks, four aces), Dakota Williams (53 assists, 15 digs) Elizabeth Sinyard (17 digs, nine kills, five aces) and Sara Beisswenger (22 digs, two aces) helped Athens Academy to the title.

Jefferson High closed the area tournament on Saturday as the runner-up in Area 8-A/AA.

After the Lady Dragons dropped their first match of the day to Athens Academy (15-25, 20-25), they fell to the loser’s bracket to take on North Oconee.

Jefferson (31-9, 6-2 8-A/AA) easily took the first game, but the two teams battled into a third-game tiebreaker. The Lady Dragons came out on top in the third game and the match (25-13, 20-25, 25-22).

The win set up a rematch with Athens Academy for the Area championship, and also assured the Lady Dragons home-court advantage on Wednesday in the opening round of the state tournament.

Jefferson dropped the final match to Athens Academy (17-25, 18-25, 25-22).

The Lady Dragons were led by Cassie Metcalf (seven aces, 22 kills and seven digs), Amanda Daniel (five aces, two kills and 72 assists) and Taylor Cramsey (four aces and 27 kills).

Those three, along with Eden Starnes, were named to the All-Area team. Sarah Wood and Savanna Holland were honorable mentions for the team.

Prince Avenue falls to Jefferson, 25-18, 25-16.

Prince Avenue was led by Mary Grace Heath (nine aces, six kills); Jordan Malaier (six aces, seven kills); and Haley Soles (six aces, six kills).

Jefferson was led by Cassie Metcalk (five aces); Amanda Daniel (two aces, 13 assists); Eden Starnes (three aces, six kills); Sarah Wood (one ace, four kills); and Savanna Holland (six kills, three blocks). The Dragons advance to play George Walton at 6 p.m. Thursday at East Hall High.

LADY DRAGONS SHINE ON SENIOR NIGHT: Jefferson swept a tri-match Thursday on Senior Night, beating Jackson County (25-8, 25-21) and Athens Christian (25-11, 25-12).

The win over Jackson County gave the Lady Dragons (29-7) a perfect 6-0 record in Area 8 A/AA North and their third season in a row going through the sub-area undefeated.

Cassie Metcalf (four aces, six kills), Amanda Daniel (six aces, five kills, 20 assists), Taylor Cramsey (nine kills), Eden Starnes (three aces, eight kills), Savanna Holland (five aces, six kills) and Amanda Burgamy (four aces) led Jefferson.

JEFFERSON SWEEPS: At Jefferson, the Lady Dragons defeated Tallulah Falls (25-10, 25-14), Lakeview Academy (25-17, 25-19) and Morgan County (25-21, 25-10). With the victory over Tallulah Falls, Jefferson clinched the No. 1 seed from Area 8-AA/A South and with the win over Lakeview Academy, the Lady Dragons seniors recorded their 100th career victory.

Leading Jefferson was Cassie Metcalf (eight aces, five kills, two assists), Amanda Daniel (seven aces, 12 kills, 30 assists), Taylor Cramsey (20 kills, nine aces, three blocks, two assists), Eden Starnes (six kills, three aces), Sarah Wood (nine kills, three assists) and Savanna Holland (eight aces, six assists).

The Lady Dragons (25-7, 5-0) will host Jackson County (5 p.m.) and Athens Christian (7 p.m.) on Thursday.

CONYERS -- Jefferson finished with a 5-2 mark at the Ampest Spikefest this weekend, losing to Greenbrier in the tournament semifinals, 23-25, 26-24, 9-15.

The Lady Dragons (23-7, 4-0) earned wins over Union Grove (25-18, 25-8) Rockdale County (25-13, 25-10), Lackeside (25-14, 25-14) and lost to Savannah Country Day (25-21, 16-25, 8-15) in pool play.

They beat Loganville (25-10, 25-16) in a cross-pool playoff and advanced to the semis with a win over Shaw (25-12, 25-15).

Cassie Metcalf (14 aces, 36 kills, seven digs), Amanda Daniel (five aces, 26 kills, 119 assists), Taylor Cramsey (two aces, 48 kills, 6 blocks), Eden Starnes 10 aces, 18 kills), Sarah Wood (nine aces, 17 kills, 11 assists) and Savanna Holland (nine aces, 14 kills) all had big weekends for Jefferson.

JEFFERSON SPLITS: At Conyers, Jefferson defeated Union Grove 25-18, 25-8 and lost to Savannah Country Day 25-21, 16-25, 8-15 in first-day play at the Ampest Spikefest.

Against Union Grove, Taylor Cramsey led the Lady Dragons with 10 kills, two blocks and two aces. She was followed by Cassie Metcalf (three kills, two aces), Amanda Daniel (19 assists, six kills), Eden Starnes (three kills, one ace), Sarah Wood (three kills, two aces) and Savanna Holland (three kills one ace).

Against Savannah Country Day -- which is ranked No. 10 in Class AA/A -- Daniel had 14 assists, four kills and one block, Metcalf had three kills and two aces, Cramsey had 11 kills and three blocks, Starnes had three kills, one aces, one assist, one block and one dig, Wood had three kills, three assists, one block and one ace, and Holland had three kills.

Jefferson (19-6) will continue play in the invitational at 9 a.m. today against Rockdale County.

JEFFERSON WINS DOUBLE-HEADER: Sarah Wood had an ace, 10 kills, seven assists and one block to lead the Lady Dragons in two victories over Rabun County 25-9, 25-10 and 25-15, 25-18.

Jefferson's Cassie Metcalf had one ace, five kills and two digs.

The Lady Dragons (18-5, 4-0 Area 8-AA) plays in the Ampest Spikefest in Conyers at 5 p.m. on Saturday.

JEFFERSON VOLLEYBALL SPLITS: Late Tuesday at Madison, Jefferson beat Morgan County 25-14, 25-17 and lost to North Oconee 26-24, 15-25, 25-23 in a volleyball triangular at Morgan County.

Cassie Metcalf had two aces and three kills, Amanda Daniel had six kills and 36 assists, Taylor Cramsey had 10 kills, Eden Starnes had nine kills and a block, Sarah Wood had 18 kills and Savanna Holland had six kills for Jefferson.

Jefrferson Volleyball stars of the week for September 4 - 11 

Amanda Daniel, Taylor Cramsey, Jefferson - Daniel recorded 65 assists, 11 kills and five aces and Cramsey added 34 kills, three assists and five aces Saturday as Jefferson went 2-2 and won the bronze bracket at the Georgia Challenge Tournament in Woodstock. In victories over East Hall and West Hall on Thursday, Daniel had 34 assists, four aces, three kills and one block and Cramsey had 16 kills, six aces and three blocks

Jefferson’s Taylor Cramsey added 29 kills and one ace.

Against Lakeview Academy, Metcalf was followed by Amanda Daniel (10 assists, one ace, one kill), Taylor Cramsey (six kills, four aces), Eden Starnes (three kills, one ace), Sarah Wood (two assists, one ace) and Savanna Holland (five kills, one ace).

Against Prince Avenue, Daniel recorded 10 aces, 18 assists and one kill, Cramsey had 11 kills two blocks, Starnes posted three aces, two kills and one block, Wood had five kills and two assists, Hannah Murphy had one kill and one assist and Amanda Flowers recorded one ace.

JEFFERSON DEFEATS NORTH HALL: At Gainesville, Jefferson, led by libero Savannah Bogue, bested North Hall 25-19, 25-12, 16-25, 25-14 to remain undefeated.

Bogue was followed by Cassie Metcalf (seven aces, five kills), Amanda Daniel (22 assists, five kills, three aces), Taylor Cramsey (11 kills, two assists, one ace), Savannna Hollard (nine kills, four aces), Sarah Wood (seven kills, three aces, one assist) and Eden Starnes (six kills, one ace).

The Lady Dragons (3-0) will play twice on Thursday at Lakeview Academy, facing Lakeview Academy at 5 p.m. and Prince Avenue Christian at 6 p.m.
